Working with children and young people.

Life can become difficult for any of us to deal with.  But for children and young people, it can be even harder to cope.  Often they find it so hard to express how they feel, and more often than not, they are not heard.

At times families may need extra support.  This can be especially important if they are finding it hard to understand their sons or daughter’s emotions and behaviour.

Alternatively children and young people may be struggling with different issues that are happening within their family, and need a space to work through the difficulties that they are experiencing.

Counselling for children and young people is different to adult counselling. It can depend on things such as age, the specific difficulties and individual needs.

Our therapist Samantha Byron has worked as with children from aged 5 upwards, and also with young people up to the age of 17.

Using various therapy methods, she is able to encourage them to work through the things that they are finding difficult to manage.  She provides them with the space they need to express how they feel.

Techniques such as art, play, drama and storytelling, are all affective ways for children and young people to express their feelings.

They can suffer from many different issues, such as relationship issues (family/friends), bullying, bereavement and loss, emotional problems, addictions and behavioural problems to name a few.

Through one to one counselling sessions they are able to express their feelings in many different ways.  This can then help them to cope better with their emotions.  Counselling also helps to provide them with the tools they need to manage any difficult situations.

Emotional wellbeing is important for all children and young people.  If they are secure in themselves and able to cope, then they will be able to grow and develop, and also achieve in life.  Counselling is a great way for children to talk about their issues in a confidential and safe environment.

If you know any children or young people that could benefit from counselling, then please get in touch with us.  We are here and happy to help.
